Monday, October 4th, 2010

Bioparc is the new Valencian zoo, it is located in the Cabecera park, in the Garden of the Turia and it opened on 27th February 2008. This park belongs to a new generation of zoos based on the concept of zoo-immersion, so the visitor will be introduced in the animal’s habitat and not the opposite. It has 100000 square meters which recreate the habitats of Africa, with a capacity to house more than 4000 animals of 250 different species of the African continent (the savanna, the forests of equatorial Africa and the island of Madagascar) in wide open spaces that replicate the habitat of each animal. The most innovative characteristic of this park is its design, which lets you see the animals almost without visible barriers. There are no fences or cages. It has recreated the natural habitats of animals and separating them from the visitors for hidden ditches, streams or crystals. In this new conception of zoo different African ecosystems are recreated. Once the visitor descends the runway of 145 meters long, on the old river bed, will advance through different habitats such as savanna, forests of Madagascar and Africa Equatorial. In the Bioparc visitors will find the original vegetation of each area and real replicas such as large rocks, caves and giant baobabs. In the center of the park is situated the amphitheater, wide outdoor multidisciplinary space with a capacity of 1000 people, which will offer to visitors the opportunity to observe behaviors of birds and mammals.
